Oil and Gas Offshore

The image shows an offshore oil rig during sunset. The platform is complex with equipment and machinery, and the ocean extends to the horizon.

Through collaboration with our customers, we provide applications that withstand demanding offshore oil and gas environments.

Our team of market experts and engineers look to contribute their metallurgical expertise and industry knowledge during the design phase of technology innovation. This helps us understand the market needs for the challenging environments of offshore oil and gas and assist customers in designing the right product. Appropriate material selection and an engineered solution are imperative to generate products that last long and meet the most demanding performance expectations. Metallus team members maintain a diverse network, stay current on industry standards, and consistently seek design improvements to continue leading the industry in strong, durable metal products.

Why Metallus?

The dynamic size range of our seamless mechanical tubing (up to 13”) means that we can design the right product for almost every project.

Applications

Our clean, reliably produced steel strengthens applications throughout the energy market, including those featured below.

Sour Service Casing

Designed to prevent hydrogen from attacking high-strength steels in even the deepest offshore wells, Metallus developed 4130ModSS to combat the most severe and most highly corrosive environments. With some of the thickest tubulars produced in industry Metallus has supported some of the world’s highest-producing wells.

Grades of Steel: 4130ModSS, Impact 7, 4130

Choke and Kill Lines

Customers depend on our product reliability, extensive testing, and technical expertise. Metallus contributed to the industry standard, API 16C, to ensure the robustness of this critical component. In addition, we have supplied the next-generation, safety-critical choke and kill lines for 20ksi systems – the first of their kind in the world.

Stators

Metallus is a leader in this space, with a thorough and robust supply chain to offer the best-in-class stator tubes on the market that also meet all of the dimensional requirements needed for subsequent customer processing. Standard stator tubes use our Impact 7 chemistry, and we use our HS220-27 chemistry to produce ERT stators, which are used in higher-torque motors.

Subsea Fasteners

Metallus is at the forefront of influencing standards like API 20E and authoring material selection for bolting documents referenced in the industry. We are one of the few raw material suppliers in the world compliant with the most critical BSL-3 rated bolting, as well as the only approved domestic supplier of bottom pour ingots for these most critical subsea bolts.
